Adam Thomas has spoken about the emotional experience of filming the death of his character's wife, Chlo Charles, in the first episode of the new series of Waterloo Road. The actor, who plays Donte Charles, was stunned when he learned of the storyline, comparing it to the shock of Sean Bean's character dying in Game of Thrones.
Thomas, who originally left the show in 2009 alongside on-screen wife Katie Griffiths, returned for the reboot set in Manchester. He described the scene where Chlo is hit by a car but initially appears uninjured, only to collapse later, as difficult and emotional to film.
The actor was joined by his real-life niece Scarlett Thomas and son Teddy Thomas for the scene, which he said was tough because of the genuine tears from the children. However, he noted that they understood it was part of the job and enjoyed the experience.
Thomas praised the new series for its relatable storylines and important topics, saying it provides a platform for young people to discuss real issues. Co-star Katie Griffiths echoed this, noting the show's return to Manchester and its continued willingness to address difficult subjects.
