Saturday Kitchen viewers caught a guest's expletive just moments into the show on 17 October. Matt Tebbutt hosted the BBC One programme as usual, welcoming guests Ben Lippett, Adam Byatt, Carmen O'Neal and Alan Cumming.
As Matt greeted viewers to the live show, a swear word from one of the guests was inadvertently picked up by the microphones. "F**k nobody heard him," Alan was overheard saying to a fellow guest, just as the cameras started rolling and before the opening credits had begun.
Viewers react to the on-air slip
"Well that's one way to start Saturday Kitchen," TV critic Scott Bryan quipped, sharing the clip on social media. Others pointed out Matt's later apology in the show for the "fruity language", reports the Mirror.
"Hahaha amazing. He did apologise mid-show," one viewer commented. Another chuckled: "Fruity language? Where? I love a bit of fruity language on a Saturday morning." Another viewer posted on X: "Me hitting 'watch from start' to find 'fruity language'." Another clarified: "Ok so the fruity language was Alan saying, "thank f**k nobody heard him" as Matt did the intro before opening credits."
Matt Tebbutt on the show's future
Matt has been leading Saturday Kitchen since 2017, taking over from James Martin. Before that, he was a regular guest presenter, making his debut in 2009. He previously spoke candidly about the show's future, confessing: "It's going to stop at some point. I'm going to have to do something."
When quizzed about his potential new ventures if the show concludes and whether he would make a return to the restaurant industry, he added: "Never say never. Maybe that's the time to do it." He had earlier revealed: "We sort of carry on making the best show we can, people still love it, they're still watching it, in their millions fortunately."
"So it's still got a huge place but I think going forward, TV in general will have to address how it's viewed." Saturday Kitchen airs from 10am on BBC One and iPlayer.
