Hollywood star Rupert Everett has joined the cast of Disney+'s Rivals for its second season, playing the role of Malise Gordon. The actor, best known for 90s romcom My Best Friend's Wedding and period drama An Ideal Husband, brings a wealth of experience to the Rutshire drama.
Malise Gordon is the husband of Helen Gordon, played by Hayley Atwell, and was formerly a show-jumping coach and mentor to Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell). The new season picks up after Tony Baddingham (David Tennant) plots revenge on his Venturer TV rivals.
Everett's career spans decades, with roles in BBC's The Musketeers, The Happy Prince, Parade's End, My Policeman, and The Serpent Queen. More recently, he appeared in Big Mood, Emily in Paris, and Madfabulous.
Speaking to Radio Times, Hassell teased the dynamic between Campbell-Black and the Gordons, describing their feelings as “really strong, fairly negative” yet “protective” towards the former Olympian, despite him having “really really hurt” them.
