Robert Pattinson, the 40-year-old British actor renowned for his role in the Twilight saga, is set to portray American television host Chris Hansen in the upcoming A24 drama Primetime. The film delves into the origins of Hansen's true-crime NBC Dateline programme, To Catch A Predator, which aired from 2004 to 2007 and documented investigations where Hansen confronted adult men lured to a sting house under the pretence of meeting underage girls.
A Glimpse into the Trailer
In the newly released trailer, Pattinson's voice is strikingly unrecognisable as he mimics Hansen's characteristic confrontational style. He delivers lines such as: "What would have happened if I wasn't here? You see how this looks, right? At the end of the day, man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Do you agree?" He continues, "Do you watch television? Well, there's something you should know. I'm Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC, and you're about to be a part of television history."
The Show's Controversial End
The series was cancelled following the suicide of Texas district attorney William "Bill" Conradt Jr, who shot himself after officers and a film crew reportedly entered his home during an undercover sting operation. His sister, Patricia Conradt, later filed a lawsuit against NBC, alleging that the network failed to protect her brother. The case was settled in 2008.
Cast and Crew
Directed by Lance Oppenheim, Primetime features a talented cast including Merritt Wever, known for her role in Unbelievable, Skyler Gisondo from Focker-In-Law, and singer Phoebe Bridgers, who makes her acting debut. Bridgers is famous for songs like 'Scott Street', 'Motion Sickness', and 'Kyoto'.
Pattinson's Busy Year
Primetime is one of several projects for Pattinson in 2026. He also appears in The Drama and is set to star in upcoming blockbusters The Odyssey and Dune Part Three. His recent work includes 2025's Die My Love alongside Jennifer Lawrence and the sci-fi comedy Mickey 17. Pattinson first gained widespread fame for his portrayal of vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, opposite Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
