Variety senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay described the film as a 'scorching hot twisted tale,' while IndieWire editor Anne Thompson predicted it would 'open well and soar at the box office.' Entertainment writer Scott Menzel noted the film's potential as a major awards contender, particularly in cinematography, costume design, and score.
Based on Emily Brontë's 1847 novel, the film follows the forbidden romance between Robbie's Cathy, a wealthy patrician, and Elordi's Heathcliff, a high-society pariah.
