Comedian and actor Richard Ayoade has been confirmed for a major role in the iconic murder mystery series Only Murders in the Building, just days after being involved in a car crash that reportedly injured two people.
Ayoade Joins Stellar Cast
The IT Crowd and Last One Laughing star joins a host of British icons in the sixth season of the beloved show, which will be set in London. According to Deadline, Ayoade is one of several big names joining the Disney+ hit, alongside Doctor Who stars David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker, and Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan.
Further cast members announced include Jim Broadbent (Paddington), Adrian Lukis (The Outlaws), and Kathryn Hunter (Poor Things). Previously announced stars include Coughlan's Bridgerton co-star Simone Ashley, Absolutely Fabulous legend Jennifer Saunders, Bad Sisters Sharon Horgan, and The Office star Martin Freeman.
Recurring cast members also include Sean Teale, Amar Chadha-Patel, Rhea Norwood, Matthew Beard, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan, Jane Horrocks, Derek Jacobi, and Lesley Nicol.
Car Crash Incident
Ayoade's casting comes on the same day reports emerged in The Sun that he was involved in a car crash on Saturday, 13th June in southeast London. The 49-year-old actor was driving his car in East Dulwich when a Renault was seen speeding by eyewitnesses. Witnesses claimed a woman was hit by the Renault before it collided with Ayoade's Mercedes SUV, damaging the front right section.
Ayoade was reportedly seen holding his neck when he got out of his car at a roundabout and spoke to police. The London Ambulance Service confirmed in a statement: 'We treated two women at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre.'
Production Underway
Production is currently underway in the UK for the sixth season, which stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. No release date has been announced yet. Only Murders in the Building is available to stream on Disney+.
