Prisoner: A Lean Police Thriller for Line of Duty Fans

What’s not to love about Izuka Hoyle and Tahar Rahim’s action-packed drama Prisoner? The show airs at 9pm on Sky Atlantic and offers a sleek, Line of Duty-esque police experience. The story follows Amber (played by Big Boys’ Izuka Hoyle), a prison officer fresh out of idyllic maternity leave, who is tasked with picking up Tibor Stone (The Serpent’s Tahar Rahim). Stone is a prisoner so dangerous that he cannot even be trusted with his own insulin pump. Despite his heinous crimes, the police need his testimony to bring down an organised crime syndicate. The series features sleek storytelling and Eddie Marsan playing against type, making it a must-watch.

Saint-Pierre: Canadian Procedural with Stunning Scenery

At 8pm on U&Alibi, Saint-Pierre offers an occasionally bilingual and always far-fetched Canadian procedural. Its biggest asset is the stunning east-coast scenery. A Bastille Day killing draws Arch (Death in Paradise’s Joséphine Jobert) and Fitz (Allan Hawco) into a world of mob rivalries, leaving viewers asking: mais que se passe-t-il donc?

Taskmaster: Comedians Try to Make Boring Exciting

On Channel 4 at 9pm, Taskmaster features five comedians attempting to make something boring exciting. Joanna Page smashes a sheep, Amy Gledhill creates a “sexy plank lady,” and Kumail Nanjiani invents a dish named “Racial Harmony” combining a kebab with strawberry jam. Greg Davies remarks: “I didn’t think I’d say this, but racial harmony makes me feel sick.”

The Traitors India: Grandiose Gameshow Remake

At 9pm on BBC Three, The Traitors India takes place in a “fancy, mysterious palace” with 20 contestants marshalled with camp flair by host Karan Johar. In the opening triple bill, the more grandiose style permeates the participants, whose accusations are much more flamboyantly confrontational than in the UK version.

Big Mood: Dark Comedy Returns for Series Two

At 10pm on Channel 4, Big Mood continues Camilla Whitehill’s dark comedy about mental illness. The series has leaned further into its kooky side for series two, but has it lightened the mood too much? The final double-header sees Maggie (Nicola Coughlan) try to save Eddie (Lydia West) from cultish-guru Whitney, before a flashback-heavy trip to 2010.

The Miniature Wife: Tricksy Comedy Drama

At 10pm on Sky Atlantic, The Miniature Wife continues the tricksy US comedy drama, wasting the talents of Matthew Macfadyen as beleaguered scientist Les. While he deals with a new boss at work, his unfortunately shrunken wife, Lindy (Elizabeth Banks), has two visitors to her doll’s house: a human, who is welcome, and a fly, which engages her in a fight to the death.
