Prince William to Make Surprise Graham Norton Show Appearance

Prince William is set to make a surprise appearance on a special edition of The Graham Norton Show on Friday evening, October 23, to showcase his Earthshot Prize initiative. The royal will join stars Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin and Hannah Waddingham, all of whom have supported the annual environmental accolade.

Surprise Entrance Stuns Studio Audience

Presenter Graham Norton opens the programme by speaking with the three celebrity guests before revealing what connects them: The Earthshot Prize. The unsuspecting studio audience was then stunned when the prince made his entrance and settled onto the iconic television sofa alongside the stars.

In conversation with Graham, William discusses the yearly prize, which provides £1M to five recipients annually to help expand their environmental innovations, and the importance of combining urgency with optimism when addressing climate change.

Earthshot's Global Coalition and Celebrity Support

Prince William explained that no individual person or project can tackle the challenge in isolation, which is why Earthshot unites a worldwide coalition of innovators, investors and campaigners. William also spoke about his football club, Aston Villa, and his appreciation for Christopher Nolan's cinema.

Throughout the episode, broadcasting on BBC One at 22.40 on Friday, Ms Blanchett, an Earthshot Prize Council Member, characterised the Prize as a "tapestry of solutions", while Ms Waddingham, who presented the 2023 ceremony in Singapore, emphasised the assistance provided to all Finalists and Earthshot's capacity to link innovators with the expertise, networks and funding required to expand their influence.

Build-Up to Mumbai Awards Ceremony

Mr Irwin, a Global Ambassador of the Prize, discussed how Earthshot inspires younger generations and cultivates fresh environmental champions for the future, reports the Express.

This exclusive edition is part of Earthshot's official build-up to Mumbai and follows William's organisation of a cricket match on The Mall alongside legendary figures from the sport last week.

Earthshot's Measurable Impact Since 2020

The awards ceremony will take place in Mumbai, India, marking Earthshot's sixth year. Since launching in 2020, Earthshot Prize Finalists and Winners have collectively avoided or captured more than 18 million tonnes of CO2e emissions, protected or restored 580,000 km2 of land, forests and freshwater systems and improved air quality for communities home to 600 million people.

Additional accomplishments include safeguarding or rehabilitating over 850,000 km2 of ocean and coastal areas, eliminating, preventing or upcycling 465,000 tonnes of waste and conserving, reusing or recycling 21 million tonnes of water.
