Moonflower Murders, the BBC detective drama starring Daniel Mays, has achieved a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated TV drama in the Line of Duty actor's career. The six-episode series, which first aired in 2024 on BBC One and PBS in the US, is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The twisty mystery is based on Anthony Horowitz's novel of the same name and follows Susan Ryeland, played by Lesley Manville, as she investigates a baffling unsolved murder that disturbs her idyllic life. Timothy McMullan portrays fictional detective Atticus Pünd, while many actors take on dual roles, including Daniel Mays as Locke and Chubb, an inspector investigating a disappearance.
The series has been praised by critics. The Evening Standard called it a 'fabulously multi-layered story' in a four-star review, while the New Statesman highlighted the dual-role casting as 'like watching high-class theatre'. Other outlets described it as 'pure comfort food for the mystery lover' and 'clever, cozy, and full of unique characters'.
A third series, Marble Hall Murders, is in development, adapting the final chapter of Horowitz's book series, with Lesley Manville set to return as Susan Ryeland.
