Peaky Blinders Spin-Off Announced By Steven Knight

The BBC has commissioned a spin-off series of the hit drama Peaky Blinders, set in Birmingham after the Second World War. The new show will follow the next generation of the Shelby family, with the narrative beginning in 1953.

Two series have already been ordered, to air on both the BBC and Netflix. The plot will centre on the race to rebuild Birmingham following heavy bombing by the Luftwaffe, and the wrangling over the city's reconstruction project.

Steven Knight, the show's creator and writer, said: 'I'm thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.'

The spin-off is the latest addition to the Peaky Blinders universe, following a ballet about Tommy Shelby and an upcoming film in which Cillian Murphy will reprise his role. Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, added: 'Steven has worked his magic once again and I can't wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham. There's plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to!'
