Cillian Murphy has described the end of filming for the upcoming Peaky Blinders film as 'completely underwhelming'. The actor, who has portrayed Thomas Shelby since 2013, was shooting a scene for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man in the Peak District when the production wrapped abruptly.
'We were on the side of a hill in the Peak District somewhere, in the pissing rain, and we were losing the light,' Murphy told Empire. 'But it was a really emotional scene.' He added that after the final shot, the rest of the cast and crew simply drove away, leaving him feeling the moment lacked the significance he had anticipated.
Despite the anticlimactic end, Murphy said he won't fully process his departure from the role until the film is released. 'I don't think I'm going to be able to process it or think about it until the film comes out, because I believe that a film isn't finished until people look at it,' he explained.
The film, set in 1940s Birmingham, will serve as the final chapter for Tommy Shelby before a new series set in 1953 introduces a new generation of the Shelby family. Creator Steven Knight described the movie as 'the end of a novel' that prepares fans for what comes next. The new series will focus on Birmingham's post-war reconstruction, with the Shelby family at its centre.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man will be released in select cinemas on 6 March 2026 and stream on Netflix from 20 March.
