Patience Season 2 Cast Shake-Up: Jessica Hynes Joins as Laura Fraser Exits

Channel 4 crime drama Patience returns for a second season tonight with a significant cast change. Laura Fraser's DI Bea Metcalf has departed, replaced by Jessica Hynes as the gruff DI Frankie Monroe. Star Ella Maisy Purvis, who plays criminologist Patience Evans, has praised the new dynamic, calling it 'fantastic' and 'zesty'.

Purvis admitted initial concerns about Fraser's exit but said the new partnership 'really works for the story'. She told RadioTimes.com: 'I think when anyone leaves a TV show, it's sad... but the dynamic that Jessica brings is fantastic.' Hynes describes Frankie as a 'grumpy, stern, hard-bitten policewoman' who sees Patience as a 'nuisance'.

Despite Bea's absence, Purvis assured fans her character remains 'crucial' to Patience's journey. 'A big part of Patience's journey in the season is getting over that – and realising what that experience had taught her,' she explained. 'Her relationship with Bea is very much crucial in her finding strength to carry on.'
