Outer Banks devotees are still seething over a shocking twist in the smash-hit Netflix drama, as they've been handed an exciting update on the forthcoming season.
The beloved teen drama is set to conclude with its fifth instalment, which Tudum recently confirmed has wrapped filming.
The show follows a group of youngsters from a North Carolina beach town who embark on an extraordinary treasure hunt after one of their parents goes missing.
Launching the careers of stars including Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes, Outer Banks has cemented itself as one of Netflix's most-watched programmes of all time, with millions of viewers anticipated to tune in for the grand finale, reports the Express.
However, a great number of them are still reeling from a gut-wrenching twist at the close of season four.
In the jaw-dropping finale, fan-favourite JJ Maybank (played by Rudy Pankow) was murdered by his own biological father, Chandler Groff (J Anthony Crane), in a bid to claim the legendary Blue Crown for himself.
Viewers were left heartbroken by JJ's death, with many confessing the final season simply won't be the same without Pankow returning for one last adventure.
A touching photograph of the principal cast, which also includes Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, Madison Bailey, and Carlacia Grant, was shared on Instagram this week to mark Outer Banks completing filming.
The post was rapidly flooded with comments from outraged fans condemning the decision to kill off JJ. "It doesn't look the same without JJ," one fan said. "I'll reluctantly watch, but killing him off was not the move."
Someone else cried: "Won't be the same since JJ is dead." And another fan asked: "What's the point without jj."
Another fan lamented with broken heart emojis: "my boy... they took him from us."
One commenter fumed: "dooontttt careeeeee.. where's jj?" And a final fan said: "Yall could have written JJ off in SO many other ways. Horrible writing and a disservice to the fans."
