Outer Banks fans have expressed outrage over the death of fan-favourite character JJ Maybank, with many saying they 'don't care' about the upcoming final season. The show's Instagram post marking the completion of filming for season five was flooded with complaints.
In the season four finale, JJ was killed by his biological father, Chandler Groff, who stabbed him in a bid to claim the Blue Crown. The twist left viewers heartbroken, with some questioning the point of watching the final season without the character.
One fan commented: 'It doesn't look the same without JJ. I'll reluctantly watch, but killing him off was not the move.' Another wrote: 'Won't be the same since JJ is dead.' A third added: 'What's the point without JJ.'
The backlash comes as Netflix confirmed that the fifth season will be the show's last, with filming now complete. The teen drama, which follows a group of friends on a treasure hunt in North Carolina, has become one of the streaming service's most-watched programmes.
Despite the criticism, the final season is expected to air later this year. Fans have also shared animated GIFs of JJ's iconic line, 'You can't kill a Pogue,' in response to the news.
