The fifth season of 'Only Murders in the Building' is set to premiere on Tuesday, 9th September on Disney Plus. The season will launch with a triple-bill of episodes, followed by weekly instalments. The comedy-drama stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as amateur podcasters investigating murders in their New York apartment building.
Season 5 will focus on the death of doorman Lester, played by Teddy Coluca, whose body was discovered in the season 4 finale. The official synopsis promises to explore 'shadowy corners of New York and beyond' as a 'dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia' is exposed.
The cast includes returning regulars such as Michael Cyril Creighton, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Nathan Lane, James Caverly and Meryl Streep. New additions for season 5 include Bobby Cannavale, Keegan-Michael Key, Christopher Waltz, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Jermaine Fowler and Beanie Feldstein. Zellweger, Lerman and Waltz will play the three richest people in the world.
Téa Leoni will reprise her role as Sofia Caccimelio, a woman who approached the trio about her missing husband in the season 4 finale. The case of her husband's disappearance will be expanded upon, with Cannavale taking on a role in that storyline.
Co-creator John Hoffman has expressed a desire to continue the series beyond season 5, telling ScreenRant that 'everyone involved in it is so happy doing it'. However, Martin Short has noted in a Variety interview that the creatives will 'know when it feels like it's past its time', leaving the show's future uncertain.
