The Netflix rom-com 'Nobody Wants This' ended its first season with a cliffhanger that has divided viewers. In the finale, Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) and his non-Jewish girlfriend Joanne (Kristen Bell) face a crossroads after Joanne confesses she cannot convert to Judaism. 'Because I love you, I can't convert,' Joanne tells Noah, explaining she was only doing it for him and is not ready. Noah suggests slowing down, but both see no future without conversion, especially given Noah's promotion to head rabbi.
Joanne says goodbye, instructing Noah not to follow her. However, she repeatedly checks for him as she leaves his niece's bat mitzvah. In a twist, Joanne gets off the shuttle to find Noah in the parking lot. 'You were right. I can't have both,' Noah says before kissing her, implying he gave up his job promotion for love.
Brody tells TVLine he likes to think Noah chose Joanne and the rest will work out, but adds, 'I don't know if, in the light of day, he still feels that way.' Bell describes Joanne's decision as 'a Gift of the Magi situation,' where she realises the importance of being authentic. 'She pulls back is the most important, because she's finally being true,' Bell says.
Creator Erin Foster reveals three different endings were filmed, with the final one chosen by vote. 'One is she gets off the bus, and he's just standing there,' Foster says. 'One is he says, 'It's you and me.' Then the other one is, 'Well, then how's this going to work?'' Foster is already thinking about a potential Season 2, wanting to continue the relationship slowly.
