Fans of All Creatures Great and Small will soon see Nicholas Ralph in a very different role, with the actor joining the final season of Grantchester.
Ralph's New Role
Best known for playing James Herriot in the Channel 5 drama, Ralph takes on the role of Reverend John Planer in season 11, which is currently airing in the US.
The Scottish star appears in episode five of the new season, set in the summer of 1963. The story centres on detective Geordie Keating and vicar Alphy Kotteram as they investigate a new batch of cases.
As reported by TV Insider, Alphy encounters Reverend John during a stay at Bishop Grey's residence, where several members of the clergy have gathered for a weekend away.
UK Air Date Pending
A UK air date for the show's 11th and final season has yet to be announced, although American viewers can continue watching new episodes on PBS through 2 August.
This season also sees Alphy looking more closely at his own history, a journey that causes him to question some of his long-held beliefs. Elsewhere, his relationship with Meg, the bishop's daughter, continues to grow stronger.
Elsewhere, Geordie is relishing a more peaceful chapter in his life, while Cathy is going from strength to strength as CeCe's Fashion Boutique continues to expand, reports the Express.
Season Synopsis
The synopsis reads: "Out of the blue, the Chief Superintendent comes to Geordie with a beguiling offer. It could be a chance for Geordie to finally be in charge, but it could also mean an end to his crime-solving days and his crime-solving partnership with Alphy."
"During a quiet period at the halfway house, Leonard finds himself with time on his hands and a chance to take stock of his own life and whether he's doing enough with it. When one of Daniel's neighbours becomes ill, Leonard is drawn into helping care for the neighbour's son, Raymond - and discovers a paternal side to himself he never knew he had."
Fan Excitement
While fans are eager to see Grantchester back on their screens, given that the previous two series were both aired in January, the final instalment may well follow the same pattern and make its debut in early 2027.
Upon hearing news of the crossover, one fan took to social media to write: "Two of my favourite worlds colliding with #ACGAS Nicholas Ralph appearing in the wonderful #Grantchester. It will be fun to see the crossover of my favourite shows."
Grantchester is available to watch on ITVX.
