The cast of Line of Duty has reunited for the first read-through of the highly anticipated sixth series, sending fans into a frenzy. Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar, and Martin Compston were joined by new cast member Kelly Macdonald, who will play Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, described as 'the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced'.
The BBC's official Twitter account shared a photo of the cast in a corridor, captioned: 'Back to work for this lot at the #LineOfDuty Series 6 read-through!' McClure also posted the image on Instagram, writing: 'And big warm welcome to Kelly!! Series 6...let’s be havin ya!'
Show creator Jed Mercurio said: 'We're honoured that Kelly Macdonald will join Martin, Vicky and Adrian in Series 6 of Line of Duty. DCI Joanne Davidson will prove the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced.' Macdonald follows in the footsteps of previous guest stars including Keeley Hawes, Thandie Newton, and Stephen Graham.
Martin Compston, who plays Detective Steve Arnott, shared a photo of the script for the first episode on social media, writing: 'Guys... I’m scared.' The post garnered over 35,000 likes, with fans expressing excitement and confidence in the actor's abilities.
Earlier, Mercurio teased fans with a potential clue about the new series by posting a photo of TimTams biscuits with the caption '#LineofDuty Series 6 Plot Clue No. 1.' The sixth series is expected to air later this year on BBC One.
