Disney+ has announced that three new episodes of The Simpsons will be released on the streaming service this summer. The episodes, which will be exclusive to Disney+, include a parody of the anthology series Black Mirror.
The first episode, a double-length instalment titled 'Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition', arrives on 17 June. The logline reveals that Homer and Marge's date night goes awry when Marge discovers Homer left the children unsupervised with only a doorbell camera as a babysitter. A tipsy Marge then imagines three different versions of Homer. Guest stars include Betty Gilpin, with musical guests Laufey and Tegan and Sara.
On 3 June, 'Simpsley' will be released. This noir-style episode follows a penniless con-artist Marge Bouvier, who is sent to Italy to convince Seymour Skinner to return home, but is tempted by his affluent lifestyle—complicated by his houseguest, Homer Simpsley.
The third episode, 'Yellow Mirror', a spoof of Black Mirror, arrives on 26 August. The logline describes two dark tales: a defective lamp reveals a heartbreaking truth about Homer's reality, and an AI-powered tablet befriends and controls Maggie.
Earlier this year, showrunner Matt Selman dismissed speculation that a forthcoming sequel to 2007's The Simpsons Movie could serve as the show's finale. He stated that if the show ever ends, it would not have a traditional series finale but would simply be a regular episode, with the characters resetting each week like 'Groundhog Day'.
