Netflix's 'One Day' Leaves Viewers 'Emotionally Distraught'

Netflix viewers have been left an 'emotional wreck' after binge-watching the newly released series 'One Day', based on David Nicholl's 2009 novel. The show follows the decades-spanning love story of Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley, who reunite on the same day every year.

Despite being released only days ago, many have already raced through all 14 episodes, only to be left with what one viewer described as 'irreparable emotional damage'. The series stars Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, replacing the 2011 film adaptation's Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.

Viewers took to social media to express their devastation. Sharronda Williams posted on X: 'Netflix will pay for its crimes! Making me believe in love and then rip out my heart afterwards.' Another user, Pau, warned: 'Don't watch One Day on Netflix if you want to have a happy life.'

Some, like Kate, sought spoilers to avoid the emotional trauma of the film's ending. Others who went in blind were caught off guard. Beth Torres Ruiz admitted: 'I have never been more emotionally distraught... I was completely unprepared. Tears are a flowing.'

Earlier this week, Ambika Mod revealed she initially turned down the role 'over and over again', despite loving the novel as a teenager. She told Grazia: 'I saw the email notification... and I was like “Nah I’m not doing that”.' However, after realising she had made a 'terrible mistake', she auditioned and secured the part.
