Irish black comedy series 'Obituary', which has earned a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, is set to stream on ITVX from May 24. The show, starring Siobhán Cullen as obituary writer Elvira Clancy, first aired on RTE in 2023 and is already available on Netflix.
The series follows Elvira, who writes obituaries for a local newspaper. When her pay structure shifts to 'pay-per-death', she discovers a talent and ambition for murder. As her obsession with death deepens, she begins killing local people to create more interesting obituaries.
In season two, Elvira deals with her father's death by resuming her killing spree, but suspicion falls on her when another serial killer emerges in town. The show has been praised by fans, with one calling it 'wickedly smart, darkly funny, and way more heartfelt than it has any right to be'.
Siobhán Cullen revealed her own fascination with graveyards inspired her role. 'I love walking through a cemetery,' she told The Irish Times. 'You just create little narratives and stories.' She also wrote mock obituaries for departing crew members during filming.
