Netflix has confirmed that one of its most popular series, Emily in Paris, will come to an end after its upcoming sixth season. The show's creator, Darren Star, made the announcement, revealing that production for the farewell season is currently underway in Greece and Monaco.
A Bittersweet Farewell
Star expressed his gratitude in a statement to Variety, calling the experience a 'trip of a lifetime.' He thanked Netflix, Paramount, and the fans for their support, adding, 'We can't wait to share this last chapter with you.' Lily Collins, who stars as the titular Emily Cooper, also shared a video on Instagram, promising a thorough and stylish farewell.
From Paris to the Mediterranean
The series, which debuted in 2020, follows American marketing executive Emily Cooper as she navigates life and love in Paris. Over the seasons, the show has expanded its European scope, with Emily splitting time between Paris and Rome. The fifth season ended on a cliffhanger, with Emily torn between staying in Rome with her Italian love interest Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) or returning to Paris. Meanwhile, her on-again, off-again flame Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) sent her a postcard inviting her to Greece, where he now works as a chef on a yacht.
Cast and Reception
Key cast members, including Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, and Andrew Fleming, are set to return for the final season. Despite mixed reviews, Emily in Paris remains a massive hit for Netflix. The latest season garnered 26.8 million views globally in just 11 days and appeared in the top 10 in 91 countries. The first season was watched by 58 million households in its first 28 days.
Critical Perspective
While initially praised as a feel-good binge, recent seasons have received middling reviews. Critics have pointed to repetitive plotlines and frustration with Emily's indecisiveness. In The Independent's two-star review, Katie Rosseinsky noted the show's reliance on stereotypical tropes for Emily's European love interests, humorously suggesting future seasons might feature a Spanish bullfighter or a Swedish IKEA employee.
Looking Ahead
Emily in Paris's conclusion follows another Netflix series, The Lincoln Lawyer, which also recently announced its final season. The sixth and final season of Emily in Paris is expected to air in late 2026.
