The Prime Video series My Lady Jane has been hailed as a 'brilliant' period drama that 'deserved better,' making it perfect for fans of Bridgerton. Set in Tudor England, the eight-part series first aired in 2024 and quickly became an instant hit with viewers.
The show reimagines the life of Lady Jane Grey, the 'Nine Day Queen' who famously ruled for nine days in the 16th century before being executed for treason. However, in this version, Jane escapes her grim fate and saves herself. The synopsis reads: 'Jane, who avoids her grim fate, marries a man with a secret, and becomes queen, all while navigating a magical, swashbuckling world where people can change into animals.'
Star-Studded Cast and Fan Praise
The series features Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Henry Ashton, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Rob Brydon, and Jordan Peters. Since its release, fans have been highly praising the show, with many calling for its return. One fan said: 'My Lady Jane quickly became my entire personality. Despite Critical Acclaim, Cancellation Looms
Despite a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, the programme was cancelled by Prime Video due to low viewership numbers. Fans remain hopeful for a revival or pickup by another broadcaster. A petition has been created, currently signed by 129,403 people and counting. The petition has also been backed by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, who called the series 'clever and original historical fantasy.' In a blog post, he said: 'Got to love the fans. I wish them luck. Jane deserved more than nine days, or eight episodes.'
One fan added: 'Netflix would've marketed this show better, and in my opinion it's of better quality acting and more compelling plot and characters than Bridgerton, so it makes me sad to think how far it could've gone on Netflix!'
