Andy Murray's Cromlix Hotel, a £7.6 million venture near Dunblane, will feature in a new Channel 4 documentary series titled 'Our Scottish Hotel' in December. However, viewers hoping to see the tennis star's trophies on display will be disappointed, as wife Kim has insisted the hotel is not a "homage to Andy."
Hotel Transformation and Michelin Recognition
The five-star luxury boutique hotel, set within 34 acres of secluded woodland, was originally purchased by Murray in 2013. Since his retirement from tennis in 2024, the couple has invested heavily in upgrading the venue. The grand 19th-century Victorian country mansion features original stone turrets, a private chapel, and its own loch.
The documentary will offer a year-long insight into the hotel's transformation, including the addition of a new wing with two restaurants. The series came about after one of these eateries, Cradle at Cromlix, was recognised in the Michelin Guide. The site also includes The Garden Room restaurant, The Glasshouse afternoon tea venue, and a bar.
Financial Investment and Trophy Ban
The hotel was bought for £1.8 million in 2013, with further millions spent on renovations. Company accounts from 2015 show £2.46 million was spent in 2014, in addition to £3.44 million in 2013, totalling a £6 million outlay. Public records indicate the Murrays have spent at least £7.6 million in total on the property.
In an interview with Meander Scotland, Kim confirmed there is little evidence of Murray's tennis career in the hotel. She said: "We do have a tennis court at the hotel which is painted in the Wimbledon colours, and it features an umpire chair from a match Andy played against Roger Federer in Glasgow. We also have a pickleball court at the hotel." She added: "We actually didn’t want the hotel to be a homage to Andy and tennis though, we want it to be a great hotel that just happens to be owned by Andy - so there aren’t too many references to him inside!"
Art Collection and Family History
Murray's art collection, however, is on display at the hotel. Kim told Homes and Interiors Scotland: "Andy is constantly buying large-scale artwork and we are running out of space at home. So we end up bringing a lot of it to Cromlix on a sort of rotational basis so that our guests can enjoy our personal collection as much as we do."
The interiors, curated by Kim, feature bold botanical wallcoverings, bespoke upholstery, and contemporary artwork. Speaking to Scottish Woman Magazine, she noted: "Well, I don’t love all of Andy’s art choices! But in general, I appreciate the fact that he buys art that talks to him in some way."
The hotel holds deep family significance, having hosted the couple's wedding reception in April 2015. Murray's brother Jamie also married there in 2010, and the siblings' grandparents celebrated their gold and silver wedding anniversaries at the venue. Kim told POB Hotels: "We now have over 70 employees working at the hotel." The three-part documentary series will broadcast on Channel 4 in December, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
