Marks & Spencer's new limited-edition Chocolate, Strawberry & Pistachio Creme Sandwich has received a blunt three-word review from food influencer Carmie Sellitto: 'It's very dry.' The sandwich, inspired by the viral TikTok 'Dubai chocolate' trend, is a dessert-style spin-off of M&S's previously popular Japanese-style 'fruit sando'.
Product Details and Price
Launched this month, the sandwich features cocoa-enriched, sweetened brioche-style bread filled with a layer of rich Fairtrade dark chocolate sauce and a smooth roasted pistachio nut crème blended with mascarpone cheese. Slices of fresh, sweet British Red Diamond strawberries are nestled in the centre. Priced at £3.50 for a single/half-sandwich pack, it costs more than the classic strawberries-and-cream version returning alongside it at £2.80. As a limited-edition summer release, it has been flying off shelves in numerous local Foodhalls due to exceptionally high demand.
Influencer's Verdict
Carmie Sellitto, who commands an impressive 704,000 followers on Instagram, shared his verdict in a recent post. He told his audience he was 'excited to see if the sandwich was worth it' and initially praised the bread, exclaiming: 'Look at the bread... the bread's chocolate.' However, his enthusiasm waned as he delivered his three-word verdict: 'It's very dry.' Carmie conceded he 'didn't get much of the sauce' and noted that when he did, the chocolate was 'a lot more overpowering than the pistachio.' He awarded the sandwich a 5/10 rating and confessed he would probably not purchase it again.
Mixed Reactions from Followers
The sandwich divided opinion amongst his followers in the comments section. One shopper wrote: 'Makes me want to go directly to M&S. Their Big Daddy pistachio chocolate is gorgeous.' Another reacted with distaste, exclaiming: 'Ewww no, a sandwich is a sandwich - that's a cake slice.'
Other Reviewers Disagree
Notwithstanding Carmie's assessment, numerous other reviewers claim the combination of dark chocolate sauce, mascarpone cheese, and British strawberries tastes 'amazing' together. Several testers were also pleasantly surprised that the sandwich isn't excessively rich or sweet, finding the balance of flavours remarkably well-judged.
