The new Channel 5 thriller Missed Call has captivated audiences with its gripping storyline and stunning backdrops. Starring Joanna Scanlan as Sarah, a mother racing to find her missing daughter in the fictional French village of Saint-Michel, the five-part series was filmed entirely in southern France.
Contrary to expectations, all scenes—including those set in England—were shot in France. The production was based in Montpellier, with key scenes filmed at the historic Manufacture Royale de Villeneuvette in Hérault, a former royal manufacturing village now a popular tourist attraction.
Montpellier, described as a "vibrant, sunny city," is known for its medieval pedestrian-only centre, L'Écusson, and its world-renowned medical university. Located just 10km from the Mediterranean, the city offers easy access to stunning beaches.
Joanna Scanlan praised the experience of working with a predominantly French cast, believing it added "a layer of class and sophistication" to the drama. She noted that despite initial concerns, the British and French actors found common ground in storytelling.
Shot during summer 2025, Missed Call will also broadcast in France with Scanlan's voice dubbed. The series airs on Channel 5.
