Michelle Keegan has been spotted filming her new Netflix show with The Inbetweeners star James Buckley. The former Coronation Street actress, 39, will appear alongside James, who rose to fame as Jay Cartwright in the E4 comedy, in the streaming service's adaptation of Harlan Coben's The Woods.
Filming in Knutsford
Michelle previously starred in Fool Me Once for Netflix, based on Coben's 2016 thriller, but this time she plays Lucy Silverfield, who helps her former partner, played by Tom Bateman. In the drama, Michelle's character helps him uncover secrets as he investigates a disappearance at a summer camp some two decades earlier.
James will play teaching assistant Lonnie Burger. Along with Tom, the trio appeared in good spirits as filming got underway in Knutsford, Cheshire, on Tuesday afternoon. Michelle seemed in good spirits as she made her way around the location set, dressed in a costume of a brown jacket, jeans, white shirt and pumps.
Cast and Creator Comments
At one point, Michelle joined co-star Tom, known for starring alongside Kaley Cuoco in Based on a True Story, and they smiled together as they wandered the street. Since finding fame as Tina McIntyre on Coronation Street almost 20 years ago, Michelle has become one of Britain's most famous actresses, starring in shows like Brassic and Ten Pound Poms. Her latest drama also sees her teaming up with comedian Tom Allen, as well as Mandeep Dhillon and Pearce Quigley.
When the adaptation was announced, Coben said in a statement: “The Woods is a haunting and very personal story. It has everything you expect from us - twisty, turning, gasp-inducing - but at the core is a story of old love and yearning. Working with a cast led by Tom Bateman, Michelle Keegan, Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, James Buckley, Tom Allen - it's an embarrassment of riches.”
Plot Details
Penned by Danny Brocklehurst, the eight-part thriller begins with a mysterious disappearance 20 years ago that leaves a family devastated. When new evidence convinces barrister Paul ‘Cope’ Copeland (played by Bateman) that his missing sister could be alive, he begins a relentless investigation to unearth the truth.
An official synopsis teases: “Twenty years ago, Paul ‘Cope’ Copeland’s sister Camille vanished from a summer camp in the woods, a loss that tore his family apart. Now a top barrister and devoted single father to ten-year-old daughter Cami, Cope appears to have rebuilt his life. But when the body of a man turns up - twenty years after he was supposedly murdered alongside Camille - Cope becomes convinced his sister may have made it out of the woods alive too. Determined to uncover the truth, Cope reunites with his first love, Lucy Silverfield (Keegan), and together they begin a search for answers, unearthing years of lies, cover-ups, and family secrets that threaten to destroy everything he has built.”
