Michael Weatherly is officially returning to NCIS for the upcoming 24th season, and his former co-star Sean Murray had a two-word reaction that delighted fans: 'Uh oh.'
Weatherly's Return Details
Weatherly, who famously portrayed Special Agent Tony DiNozzo for the first 13 seasons of the CBS and Paramount Plus drama, is set to have a 'season-long arc' in the new season, according to reports. Specific plot details have not yet been disclosed. His last appearance on the mothership series was a cameo for Ducky's funeral in February 2024.
The actor confirmed his return via a humorous Instagram video, which has already garnered over 111,000 likes. The video shows Weatherly teasing his comeback, with fans flooding the comments in excitement.
Murray's Playful Response
Sean Murray, who plays Timothy McGee, responded to Weatherly's post with a simple 'Uh oh' – a nod to their characters' long-running dynamic, where DiNozzo often teased McGee, calling him 'Probie' in the early seasons. Hundreds of fans liked the comment, with many referencing the nickname.
Weatherly will reunite with original cast members Murray and Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer), who have been with the show since its first season. He will also work for the first time with newer cast members Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, Wilmer Valderrama, and Gary Cole. Valderrama joined in season 14, after Weatherly's departure.
Weatherly's Post-NCIS Career
After leaving NCIS in 2016, Weatherly starred in the CBS legal drama Bull, which ran for six seasons until 2022. He later reprised his role as DiNozzo in the spin-off NCIS: Tony and Ziva on Paramount Plus, but the series was canceled after one season. With Weatherly back on the flagship show, speculation has arisen about a possible return for Cote de Pablo as Ziva David.
NCIS airs on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
