Michael Sheen breaks silence on Celebrity Traitors exit

Michael Sheen has spoken out after being killed off minutes into the Celebrity Traitors series two finale, saying he is "incredibly disappointed" but that he "loved every minute" of the show.

The Welsh actor was revealed as the last murder victim at the start of the concluding episode on Friday, October 30, after the two remaining Traitors, Maya Jama and King Kenny, chose to eliminate him.

Finale shock

Audiences tuned in for the final episode to discover the ultimate outcome, having seen comedian James Acaster confess to being a Traitor at a roundtable the previous night, Thursday, October 29. That move was described as unprecedented in the programme's history.

While there was substantial scrutiny on Michael Sheen, focus quickly shifted to James when the Welsh actor directed suspicion towards him as they discussed Ross Kemp's murder in plain sight. Comedian James was enlisted as a Traitor by Maya Jama and Richard E Grant during the early stages of the series, but from the outset he had made clear to host Claudia Winkleman that his sole desire was to be a Faithful.

As the group targeted him during the Round Table, he revealed that he was indeed a Traitor, which resulted in his banishment.

James Acaster's confession

Prior to being banished, James addressed the group: "I am so proud of you guys for catching me the way that you did, and I wanted it to be that I was found logically and in a way [where] you followed clues and got me."

Seven celebrities progressed to the final episode: Michael Sheen, Maya Jama, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, James Blunt, Sebastian Crost and Romesh Ranganathan. The two remaining Traitors were Maya and Kenny.

Throughout the series, other contestants who served as Traitors included Richard E Grant, who became notorious as the first Traitor ever to be banished at the opening Round Table of a series, and Hannah Fry.

Fan reaction and Michael's response

Maya and King Kenny, real name Kenny Oghenovo Ojuederie, were forced to carry out one final murder at the beginning of the latest episode. The pair chose to eliminate Michael Sheen, leaving viewers at home devastated.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: "These traitors are actually idiots. Why go for Michael? It's SO OBVIOUS #celebritytraitors." Another commented: "#CelebrityTraitors YOU COWARDS ! ! ! ! ! Not my Michael." A third remarked: "NO MICHAEL, YOU WILL BE AVENGED #TheTraitors #CelebrityTraitors."

Responding to his departure after discovering his death warrant from the Traitors, Michael said: "Ah the time has come. Can't say I'm surprised but I am incredibly disappointed. Gutted that I got so close to the end. It's been absolutely unforgettable and I've loved every minute of it."

The Celebrity Traitors is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
