Meghan Markle is set to make a guest appearance as a judge on the popular cooking competition show MasterChef Australia, airing on Channel 10 on Sunday, July 26, at 7pm local time. However, the announcement has been met with a wave of criticism from some viewers who took to social media to express their displeasure before the episode even aired.
One user on X wrote: “This is going to be one of the worst appearances she’s ever done.” Another commented: “Thanks for the reminder, I’ll make sure I miss the episode.” A third added: “Hard pass.” A fourth remarked: “I’m sure it’s going to be as awful as we all think it will be.” A fifth blasted: “I enjoy Masterchef, but I will NOT be watching that episode!”
Episode Details and Filming
The episode featuring the Duchess of Sussex was filmed in April during her visit to Australia with her husband, Prince Harry. In the segment, Meghan will ask contestants to prepare a dish that highlights a single seasonal ingredient and includes a personal story behind it. The available ingredients include carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, Brussels sprouts, celeriac, Australian honey, macadamia nuts, quince, lemons, apples, mandarins, and strawberries.
Meghan will appear alongside the show's regular judges: Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe Novelli.
Meghan's Statement
According to Mediaweek, the Duchess explained her decision to participate: “What attracted me to the MasterChef Australia kitchen? Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy yes.” She added: “These [the ingredients available] are all things that, for me, feel really nostalgic.”
The broadcaster Endemol Shine Australia announced the appearance on Instagram, stating: “The countdown is on! Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, joins the #MasterChefAU kitchen as a guest judge, bringing her love of food, entertaining and seasonal produce to one of the competition's most memorable challenges. Tune in on Sunday, July 26 at 7pm on @channel10au.”
