Meghan Markle's Emmy Nomination Defended by Critic

Meghan Markle's Netflix show With Love, Meghan has been nominated for an Emmy award in the category Outstanding Lifestyle Series, a decision that has drawn both praise and criticism. The 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex announced the nomination on Instagram earlier this week, writing: "A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on 'With Love, Meghan' on @netflix. We are nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!"

Critic Defends Nomination as 'Perfect Sense'

Writing in The Independent, senior culture and lifestyle writer Katie Rosseinsky defended the Emmy nod, arguing that the hand-wringing from detractors largely misses the point. "I'd even go as far as to argue that the nomination makes perfect sense (and I'm far from a With Love devotee)," Rosseinsky wrote.

She continued: "Acting like Meghan's show doesn't serve to be named in the hallowed company of these presumably solidly made but ultimately run-of-the-mill reality programmes is, as the canine stars of A Different Breed would probably put it, barking mad – and shows how anything can be stretched into an anti-Markle controversy."

The Show and Its Competition

Meghan released the first series of With Love, Meghan alongside the launch of her As Ever brand last spring. The second series aired in August 2025, followed by a one-off festive episode in December. The show faces stiff competition in the Outstanding Lifestyle Series category, including There's A Different Breed, a "dogumentary" about competitive sports for dogs.

Rosseinsky also noted that the Daytime Emmys are often considered the "lesser-loved sibling" of the main event, but argued that the nomination is still a significant achievement for the series.

Meghan's Recent UK Visit

Meghan recently travelled to the UK with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to join Prince Harry, who had arrived earlier in the week. The family reunion came amid ongoing royal engagements and public interest in the couple's activities.
