Matt Tebbutt suffered a painful injury just seconds before presenting Saturday Kitchen on BBC One. The 52-year-old host revealed he burned his lips during rehearsal, joking that it looked like he had had fillers.
Speaking to drinks expert Helen McGinn on the April 11 episode, Tebbutt said: 'So I burnt my lips in rehearsal. Does it look like I’ve got fillers?' McGinn replied: 'It doesn’t look bad at the moment.' Tebbutt then showed a blister, adding: 'It only hurts when I talk.'
McGinn quipped that it would hurt later, to which Tebbutt asked: 'Shall I not talk?' Laughing, McGinn said: 'I don’t know if you can get away with that!' Tebbutt then tried to avoid moving his lips, asking: 'Tell us about the wine.' McGinn joked: 'I’ll give you a straw later.'
Tebbutt compared the feeling to being at the dentist, saying: 'I’ll dribble it all out, like you’ve been at the dentist.' The episode also featured chefs John Chantarasak, Niklas Ekstedt and Thomasina Miers, singer Jack Savoretti, and McGinn.
This came after Tebbutt returned from a stint in Australia. In March, Alex Jones had filled in for him, and Tebbutt praised her on his return, saying: 'Before we go on with our usual nonsense, we should say how well Alex did last week. Well done, Alex Jones.'
