Matt Allwright announces Watchdog break on The One Show

Matt Allwright, a presenter on BBC's Watchdog, announced live on The One Show that the consumer programme will take a short break. The revelation came during the October 28 episode, hosted by Vernon Kay and Clara Amfo, when they handed over to Allwright for the popular Watchdog feature.

Watchdog, a long-running consumer brand on British television, has been a fixture on The One Show for decades. The segment sees presenters examining viewers' complaints about dishonest traders, poor customer service and fraudulent schemes. Allwright has been involved with Watchdog for years and has built a reputation for uncovering scams and championing consumers.

Break Until After Children In Need

Allwright confirmed the pause during the broadcast, stating: "We are going to be taking a short break for a couple of weeks until after Children In Need, but we don't stop." He clarified: "Behind the scenes. will be keeping an eye on all your consumer concerns. We will be back with you in mid-November."

Vernon Kay responded: "Alright great work as always," as the studio audience applauded Allwright.

New Presenters Joined Earlier This Year

The announcement follows Watchdog's disclosure earlier this year that it was expanding its team of investigators. Audiences were introduced to BAFTA-winning presenter and consumer journalist Nick Stapleton and Manchester-based broadcaster and documentary maker Amber Haque.

Nick Stapleton's new role holds personal significance, as he is the son of late Watchdog presenters John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood, the husband-and-wife team who helmed the programme from 1986 to 1993. Allwright revealed the additions on The One Show in May, saying: "I'm so pleased to announce we are welcoming two new Watchdog presenters to our film team. Documentary maker and from BBC's Asian Network the brilliant Amber Haque." He added: "As well as Scam Interceptors presenter Nick Stapleton, who is of course carrying on the legacy of his parents, Watchdog Legends John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood."

The One Show airs Monday to Friday at 7pm on BBC One.
