MasterChef: The Professionals is set to air on BBC One at 8pm on Tuesday, November 3, following the end of DIY SOS after 27 years. Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti will return as hosts for the 19th series, which takes over the slot previously occupied by the property renovation show.
DIY SOS aired its final episode on October 27, with Nick Knowles, his crew, and volunteers helping a deserving family for the last time. The show will not return next year and is being placed on pause.
Nick Knowles reflects on the final episode
Before the final episode, Nick shared an update with followers on Instagram, acknowledging it was "quite an emotional one." He stated: "We have been told that the programme has been shelved, not ended."
He added: "But I have asked the question, will it ever come back in the form it is, where it builds whole houses for people or builds these great, big, hospices and charity places, and I've been told, no, if it comes back in the future, it'll be smaller, more cost-effective."
BBC confirms new spin-off show
A BBC spokesperson said: "In light of the BBC's savings challenges, we have taken the decision to rest DIY SOS in 2027 and commission a new spin-off show instead from producers South Shore."
The spokesperson added: "DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life will revisit successes from the show's past and expand the brand on the BBC in a more cost-effective way next year."
Fans campaign to save the show
A petition set up by self-employed plasterer David Claydon, who featured on the show last year, has amassed over 43,000 signatures from fans wanting to stop the show from being cancelled. DIY SOS is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
