The Governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, has paid tribute to the Tartan Army by pulling pints of Tennent's for fans at The Haven pub in Boston. Donning a Scotland strip, she served punters ahead of the World Cup match on Friday.
Healey's Tribute to Scottish Fans
Governor Healey asked jubilant crowds, "Are Scottish fans the greatest fans?" and was met with rousing cheers of "No Scotland, no party." Earlier, she signed a declaration recognising June 18 as 'World Cup Fans Appreciation Day' in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The declaration was presented to fans at The Haven alongside owner Jason Waddleton.
Pub Owner's Delight
Jason, who moved from Scotland to Boston 28 years ago, said, "The Tartan Army is doing us proud. What an honour to have had Governor Healey join us behind the bar and share a Tennent's with us all this evening. She proved a dab hand at pulling pints and we'd have her back anytime."
Boston Mayor's Twin City Initiative
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu also commemorated the occasion by signing a letter of intent for Glasgow and Boston to become twin cities, as a thanks to the Tartan Army for 'making the city come alive'. Mayor Wu chose a pink Scotland top for the signing, which will be formalised during Tartan Week in April 2027.
Jason added, "The Scottish people have made a huge impression on the city in a very short space of time and it's amazing to see that connection being formally recognised. For the last 16 years, we've presented the very best of Scotland at The Haven and to now play host to these historic moments is just incredible."
Social Media Buzz
One video shared by Instagram user @armayedo was captioned, "Today, @massgovernor showed some love to the Tartan Army at @thehavenjp. Scotland fans have brought incredible energy to Boston, and they absolutely deserve the recognition!"
Tennent's Appreciation
Samantha Crawford from Tennent's Lager said, "Celebrating a national signing with a pint of Tennent's? We love your work, Governor Healey and Mayor Wu."
Thousands more Scotland fans have flown out to the US this week to watch the Scotland v Morocco match, which takes place at Boston's Gillette Stadium today.
