Disney+ has announced that Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* will begin streaming later this month. The superhero film, which serves as the final chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Five, follows a misfit team of anti-heroes on a dangerous mission.
The ensemble cast includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The group must band together after being ensnared in a death trap, confronting the darkest corners of their pasts.
Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts* received an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score. The Daily Record praised the film's 'terrific, turbulent team,' noting it 'cleverly uses human emotions and psychological issues to grand effect.' The Los Angeles Times called it 'a film of undeniable merit,' while Empire gave a mixed three-star review, saying it 'dares to be different' but 'doesn't always land.'
Despite failing to break even at the box office, the film was seen by some as a return to form for the franchise after underwhelming instalments like Captain America: Brave New World. Disney+ subscriptions start at £4.99 per month, with options for annual plans offering savings.
