BBC Culture has released its list of the 100 greatest films of the 21st century, based on a poll of 177 film critics from around the world. The list includes a diverse range of films from 2000 onwards, challenging the notion that cinema is in decline.
Among the top entries are 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' at number six, 'The Lives of Others' at 32, and 'Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives' at 37. Other notable inclusions are 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford' at 92, 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly' at 77, and 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring' at 66.
The poll aimed to highlight that the 21st century has produced films capable of standing alongside classics like 'The Godfather' and 'Citizen Kane'. Critics argue that while the industry faces challenges from streaming and blockbuster dominance, artistic filmmaking continues to thrive.
