Triple M host Marty Sheargold is set to take on an expanded role at the network, with his national show extending into the drive-time slot in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast from 2025. The move follows his departure from the breakfast show in July.
Currently airing nationally from 3-4pm, The Marty Sheargold Show will gain an additional two hours from 4-6pm in those regions. Sheargold said he looked forward to returning to drive and giving listeners an extended version of the show, aiming to help them unwind on their commute home.
The shake-up means several local programmes will be axed. Queensland's Rush Hour with Leisel Jones, Liam Flanagan and Ben Dobbin will not return, nor will NSW's Rush Hour with Gus Worland and Jude Bolton. The Adelaide and Perth Rush Hour teams are also being discontinued.
However, the Melbourne and Tasmania Rush Hour team of James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless will expand to South and Western Australia, as well as some Triple M regional stations in the southern states. Leisel Jones announced the news on Instagram, expressing sadness that the Queensland show would not continue.
Sheargold thanked the local teams for their contributions and said he was committed to carrying on their legacies. He had taken personal leave from his breakfast show in October 2023 and left permanently in July, citing a need to prioritise family and self-care after a drunken incident at the AFL Grand Final.
