The family of a 13-year-old girl who died last month have paid tribute to their “one of a kind” daughter as Greater Manchester police continue to investigate the circumstances of her death. Madison Richardson died in hospital on 24 November after emergency services were called to a concern for welfare at an address in Manchester.
A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of harassment and later bailed in connection with the incident. Detective Inspector Andrew Day said inquiries are ongoing to determine if the actions of anyone else contributed to her death.
In a statement released on Christmas Eve, Madison’s parents described her as “bubbly, loving” and said she “lit up every room”. They added: “Maddie truly was one of a kind, she had a heart of gold and was fiercely protective of those she loved.” The family also highlighted the mental health charity YoungMinds.
James Docherty, executive headteacher of Teenage Kicks school in Failsworth, remembered Madison as a “wonderfully creative young girl” with a gift for art and face-painting. He said: “Maddie didn’t just make beautiful art – she made people feel special.”
DI Andrew Day called the death “utterly heartbreaking” for her friends and family, who faced their first Christmas without her. He confirmed that the investigation continues, with the aim of providing answers for the family.
