Lorraine Kelly Returns to ITV Show After Power Cut Chaos
Lorraine Kelly Back on ITV After Power Cut Chaos

Lorraine Kelly returned to her ITV programme on Thursday morning (November 5) after a power cut in Covent Garden forced the show off air the previous day, assuring viewers that everything was now back to normal.

Opening Thursday's edition, Kelly said: "Welcome to the show. We are back in the studio today after that wee power cut yesterday. It affected quite a lot of Covent Garden, but it's all sorted."

Wednesday's Disruption

The schedule shake-up was also referenced on Good Morning Britain during the handover with Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley. Garraway noted: "Lorraine, marvellously, is here today after 9.30am after all sorts of issues yesterday, weren't there?" Kelly replied: "I know! It wasn't just us; it was all around Covent Garden. Everything went dark! But it's all back; we're all fine; it's all good."

On Wednesday morning, the Scottish presenter was travelling to the studios when she informed supporters on Instagram that her programme had been cancelled for the day. In a video, she said: "Hello there, I'm on my way to work, but there's been a little bit of a hoo-ha. There's a power outage at the studio, so my show won't be on today. But you can still watch GMB."

She added: "They're going to fix it around 11 o'clockish. So, This Morning will still be on as well, just a bit later. It's a bit of a shame. I was really looking forward to Sharleen Spiteri from Texas, but we shall reschedule, and it'll all be fine. I will see you tomorrow!"

Extended GMB and Replacement Programming

As Kelly's show was cancelled, Good Morning Britain was extended by an additional half an hour. Although Kelly had anticipated the technical issues would be resolved by 11am, this proved not to be the case, as This Morning and Loose Women were also affected.

Rather than broadcasting a live programme, This Morning aired a compilation of segments for two and a half hours. Loose Women, meanwhile, was replaced by an episode of Ben Shephard's game show Tipping Point.

Return to Normal Service

By Thursday morning, normal service had resumed as Kelly spoke with actor Greg Wise about his latest book on grief. In a candid confession, she told the actor: "Thank you for this book; it's helped me a lot. My dad died in January and it's been difficult, like everybody has to go through these things. But this is so helpful."

Kelly's father, John, passed away suddenly at the age of 84 following an injury sustained from a fall on an icy path earlier in the year. Lorraine is available to watch weekdays on ITV from 9:30am.
