Love Island star Lorenzo's family has disclosed the real reason behind his refusal to make coffee, leaving ITV viewers stunned. Appearing on Aftersun, Lorenzo's mother confessed that the peculiar rule was her fault, stemming from a promise he made to her before entering the villa.
Lorenzo's Coffee Refusal Sparks Controversy
Lorenzo and Julia Majchrzak have become firm fan favorites to win the show. However, Julia expressed disappointment over Lorenzo's lack of "small gestures," particularly when it came to making her a morning coffee. The tradition on Love Island is for boys interested in a girl to prepare and deliver coffee, but Julia was the only one left without one, which she found hurtful.
In defense, Lorenzo insisted there would be "no coffee before love," stating, "I can only make things with pure love." He admitted to making a promise to himself not to make coffee, though viewers later saw him preparing Julia's morning beverage, shocking fans at home.
Family Reveals True Reason
On Love Island: Aftersun, Lorenzo's mother explained that the promise was actually made to her. She said, "It's my fault. He's been watching this since he was a kid with me; it's my favourite programme, I watch it every year. And he's always been like, 'I've never ever seen a girl make a coffee for a guy.'"
She added that it irritated him slightly, not because he is lazy, but because he is very domesticated and always makes her tea and coffee and cleans the house. "To wind me up, he said, 'I promise you, I'm not going to make anyone a coffee.' He said it the other day: 'I made a promise' - that promise was to me," she revealed.
His mother expressed regret, saying, "I wish he hadn't have done it because it's coming across bad. That stupid little promise to me... It's a family joke now. If I could phone in, two seconds, I'd tell him make the b***** coffee."
Viewers React to the Revelation
The revelation divided viewers. One commented, "Sorry mum but why would you let him make a promise so misogynistic like that - a man should make a woman a coffee. Women do so much to get ready every day and men sit around." Another wrote, "Julia and Lorenzo are so meant to be."
A third viewer remarked, "I can actually understand Lorenzo for that, I thought it was odd at first that he didn't want to make a coffee but I actually get that logic. The girls can make the guys coffee too." A fourth concurred, "It's true. They don't make men a coffee either. Good on Lorenzo." A fifth added, "They all should be making each other coffee... healthy relationships are a partnership. It goes both ways."
Love Island airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
