Adrian Dunbar, the beloved star of Line of Duty, has revealed a hilarious on-set blunder while filming ITV's crime drama Ridley. The actor, known for his sharp suits and commanding presence, admitted to accidentally wearing his own clothes instead of his character's costume during a key scene.
Speaking to The Mirror, Dunbar laughed about the mix-up, saying: "I turned up and realised I was dressed as myself, not Ridley. The crew found it hysterical." The 65-year-old actor, who plays retired detective Alex Ridley, joked that his personal style was so similar to his character's that no one noticed at first.
A Case of Life Imitating Art
Dunbar explained that his wardrobe mishap happened because he often arrives on set ready to work. "I tend to dress how I think Ridley would dress anyway," he confessed. "So when I rocked up in my own clothes, it took a while for anyone to realise."
The Northern Irish actor, who became a household name as Superintendent Ted Hastings in Line of Duty, said the production team eventually spotted the error. "They had to gently point out that while I looked great, I wasn't actually in costume," he chuckled.
From AC-12 to ITV
Dunbar's new role in Ridley sees him play a former detective consultant drawn back into police work. The series has been praised for its gripping storylines and Dunbar's compelling performance. Fans of Line of Duty will be pleased to see him back in another police procedural, though this time with more room for humour.
The actor revealed that the atmosphere on set is more relaxed than the intense world of AC-12. "There's definitely more opportunity for laughter," he said. "Though I still manage to keep everyone in line when needed."
With Dunbar's natural charm and this amusing behind-the-scenes story, viewers have even more reason to tune into Ridley when it returns to ITV.
