Lesley Sharp Joins Bergerac Series Two as Monica

Lesley Sharp has joined the cast of the hit detective series Bergerac for its second series, playing the role of Monica, mother to Michael (Turlough Convery) and Nicola (Camilla Beeput). The 66-year-old actress is best known for her role as Detective Constable Janet Scott in the ITV crime drama Scott & Bailey.

Sharp's extensive television credits include Clocking Off, Bob & Rose, Afterlife, Carrie's War, The Shadow Line, Paranoid, Three Girls, Fate: The Winx Saga and Red Eye. Her film roles include The Full Monty, Vera Drake, Catherine Called Birdy and Pillion.

Sharp is married to actor Nicholas Gleaves, whom she wed in 1994. Gleaves, 57, has appeared in films such as Captain America: The First Avenger and Spider-Man: Far From Home, as well as TV series including Scott & Bailey, Bodyguard, Coronation Street and After The Flood.

Speaking about her role, Sharp said: 'I remember the original Bergerac with John Nettles from when I was younger. This version feels quite different. It's more layered, more psychologically complex. When I read the scripts, I was immediately struck by the complexity of Monica. She appears to be one thing, then completely upends that assumption.'

Bergerac series two is available to stream for free on U, and via U on Channel 4.
