Fresh heartbreak looms for Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) in Coronation Street as her boyfriend Ollie Driscoll (Raphael Akuwudike) reveals plans to leave Weatherfield. Ollie has been offered a brilliant new job, but it is in Brighton — far from the cobbles where Lauren lives and works.
Lauren's troubled past
Lauren's life has been fraught with difficulty. She was raised by Reece Bolton, a member of a far-right extremist gang who indoctrinated her into his warped ideology. She arrived on the street as the group attempted to groom Max Turner (Paddy Bever), becoming his girlfriend. After the gang was imprisoned, Lauren found work at the café alongside Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
Her troubles continued when she became involved with evil solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill), one of Weatherfield's most vile villains. She became pregnant with his child and eventually killed him by bashing his head in. A relatively quiet period followed, but then she met Ollie.
Ollie and Lauren's romance
Ollie seemed a perfect match: dependable, kind, and protective, yet with enough fire to match Lauren's feistiness. However, his grandmother Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) initially disapproved, believing Lauren was beneath her grandson. Maggie schemed to keep them apart, even resorting to violence — she once threw an enemy down a flight of stairs.
Suddenly, Maggie became Lauren's biggest fan, desperate to reunite them. The reason: Ollie had moved on to Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), and Maggie knew a sickening secret — Amy and Ollie are cousins. A love triangle erupted, but the truth came out, and Lauren and Ollie resumed their romance.
The new job offer
Next week, that romance faces jeopardy. Ollie has been offered a dream job in Brighton, hundreds of miles from Weatherfield. Lauren, masking her pain, suggests he take it. She says the job sounds amazing and she would never stand in the way of his career progression and happiness.
Whether Ollie will actually leave, and whether Lauren's heart will break, remains to be seen. Viewers will have to watch to find out if this is the end for the couple.
