Amazon Prime's hit comedy series Last One Laughing is back with a four-part Halloween special, and Reece Shearsmith alone makes it worth the subscription fee. The show, hosted by Jimmy Carr, traps seven comedians for four hours with a simple premise: don't laugh or you're eliminated. This time, there's a twist—contestants also can't scream.
Who's In the Halloween Special?
Returning contestants Daisy May Cooper and Lou Sanders are joined by newcomers Jack Dee, Tom Allen, Phil Wang, Harriet Dyer, and Shearsmith of Inside No. 9 fame. The first three episodes streamed on October 23, with the finale set for October 31.
Shearsmith quickly becomes the standout, using magic tricks, spiders, and a fake hand smashed with a hammer to terrorize the others. His Joker is described as one of the best the show has produced.
Studio Makeover and Cameos
The studio features a Beetlejuice-style chequered red floor, a wall of creepy dolls, and a locker room resembling something from Saw, with jump scares hidden throughout. Celebrity cameos include Catherine Tate, whose five-minute appearance is so awkward it feels like it should be watched from behind a cushion.
All contestants bring their A-game, from Dee's rare smile to Allen's breakdancing attempt. The show's strength lies in its silliness and fly-on-the-wall feel, as comedians chat and try new gags between challenges.
Verdict
While the banter between Carr and Roisin Conaty in the green room doesn't quite land, the show remains the most entertaining comedy on British television. The first three episodes are streaming now on Amazon Prime, with the finale following on October 30.
