Bridgerton fans can breathe a sigh of relief as showrunner Jess Brownell has confirmed that Lady Danbury, played by Adjoa Andoh, is not leaving the Netflix period drama. Speculation arose after season four, part one showed the society matriarch expressing a desire to explore the world beyond the ton.
In an interview with Deadline, Brownell stated: 'I want to say very clearly that we have no intentions of Adjoa stepping back. She’s still absolutely a part of the story in season five.' The showrunner explained that Lady Danbury's season four arc was designed to explore the dynamics of a friendship with a power imbalance, particularly with Queen Charlotte.
Brownell added that season four focuses on the relationship between servants and their employers, mirroring the romance between Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and maid Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). She confirmed that the Queen and Lady Danbury are 'real friends', but tensions arise from their unequal status.
Lady Danbury has been a key figure since the show's inception and also starred in the prequel series 'Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story'. While no second season for that spin-off has been confirmed, director Tom Verica teased that other spin-offs are in development, featuring characters viewers already know.
Bridgerton season four, part two will be released on Netflix on February 26.
