A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Renewed for Season 2 Ahead of Premiere

HBO has renewed 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' for a second season, set to debut in 2027, before the Game of Thrones prequel even premieres. The announcement was made by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, at the network's press presentation in New York.

The series, based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, will premiere on January 18, 2026, on HBO and stream on HBO Max. It was originally slated for late 2025 but was delayed. The show will also air on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland from January 19.

Season 2 will cut the gap between seasons to roughly half compared to the three-year wait for the first season. The show's shorter format—six half-hour episodes per season—allows for a quicker turnaround than 'House of the Dragon', which has eight to ten hour-long episodes every two years.

HBO's Head of Drama Francesca Orsi confirmed the series is planned for three seasons, covering Martin's three Dunk and Egg books. She praised leads Peter Claffey (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg), noting the show's intimate scale.

The cast also includes Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, and others. Set a century before 'Game of Thrones', the story follows a young knight and his squire wandering Westeros. HBO also gave an early season 4 renewal to 'House of the Dragon', premiering in 2028.
