First look images have been released for the new four-part adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel, A Tale of Two Cities. The series, written by Daniel West and directed by Richard Clark, will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, and MGM+ in the US.
The limited series stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Industry) as Sydney Carton, François Civil (Beating Hearts, The Three Musketeers) as Charles Darnay, and Mirren Mack (Miss Austen, Hedda) as Lucie Manette. The story is set in London in 1782, during the war between France and Britain.
Lucie Manette's life is turned upside down when she receives a message from Paris suggesting her father, presumed dead for almost 20 years, may be alive. The messenger, French emigré Charles Darnay, is arrested and charged with treason. Lucie enlists the help of brilliant but erratic lawyer Sydney Carton to free Darnay, hoping he will lead her to Paris to find her father.
Lucie's encounter with Darnay and Carton sparks a complex love triangle, with both men vying for her affection. Despite their physical resemblance, the two men are spiritually opposed, yet find themselves bound together through triumphs, tragedies, marriage, and murder.
A Tale of Two Cities is produced by Federation Stories, in co-production with Federation Studio France and Thriker Films, for MGM+ and the BBC.
