The first trailer for Killing Eve season 2 has revealed the aftermath of the shocking cliffhanger that left viewers stunned during the BBC series' debut in 2018.
Despite that stabby ending, Jodie Comer's conniving multilingual assassin Villanelle has survived her clash with Eve Polastri, played by Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh. The trailer shows Villanelle recovering in hospital before making a getaway in stylish pyjamas, soon returning to her old tricks and potentially heading back to the UK. She is seen using her English accent and searching for a kitchen knife to stab a British man off-screen.
Perhaps the most bizarre moment of the trailer is a shot of a woman – presumably Villanelle – in a fluffy pig costume, complete with lederhosen. The first series saw Eve ousted from her secret MI6 project after discovering that Carolyn Martens (Fiona Shaw) was deeply involved with shady Russians and Konstantin Vasiliev (Kim Bodnia), who met a grim end at Villanelle's hands.
However, Eve is back working with Carolyn in season 2, as she is seen gaping in horror during the new footage, presumably at more of the master assassin's handiwork. The trailer picks up on the modern trope of reworking an old song, this time giving Robert Palmer's 'Addicted To Love' a creepy, stripped-back remix.
Killing Eve season 2 lands on AMC and BBC America on April 7. An air date for the show on BBC One has yet to be confirmed.
