Kevin Costner has been sued by a stunt performer who alleges she was subjected to a violent, unscripted simulated rape scene during filming of Horizon 2 in Utah on May 2, 2023. Devyn LaBella, 34, filed the lawsuit on May 27 in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging sexual discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, retaliation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
According to the lawsuit, the scene was not on the call sheet and was requested by Costner without an intimacy coordinator present. Lead actress Ella Hunt reportedly walked off set after becoming upset, and LaBella claims she was asked to stand in without being informed of the scene's nature. She alleges that actor Roger Ivens simulated a rape on her repeatedly under Costner's direction.
Costner's attorney, Marty Singer, stated the claims have 'absolutely no merit', asserting that LaBella was briefed on the scene and gave a 'thumbs up' after rehearsal. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, mandatory anti-harassment training, and a public apology.
LaBella, who has worked on The Rookie and CSI: Vegas, says she was not rehired for Horizon 3. She described feeling 'exposed, unprotected, and deeply betrayed' in a statement. Horizon: An American Saga is a four-part western series with a $100 million budget, partly funded by Costner, which has received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office.
