Emmerdale actor Chris Coghill, who plays Kev Townsend, has revealed that a new character named Steve, portrayed by Waterloo Road star Jason Done, will pose a significant threat to Kev's efforts to build a relationship with his long-lost son, Lewis Barton.
Kev's Return and Struggle to Connect
Kev returned to the village earlier this year, and his arrival has been anything but smooth. After a kidnapping ordeal involving a dead cat, Kev dropped the bombshell that he is Lewis's real father, delivering the news with a shaky rendition of Boyzone's "Father and Son." Now, he is desperately trying to win Lewis over.
Coghill explained that Kev's new job at the café is his chance to bond with Lewis daily and integrate into the village. However, his employment was short-lived after a clash with Mandy Dingle. Next week, Kev will ask for his job back, hoping to reconnect with his son.
Rivalry with Nicola and Support from Claudette
Kev also aims to win over Nicola King, who is protective of Lewis. Coghill noted that while Kev appreciates Nicola's protectiveness, he wants to earn her trust after she tried to get rid of him. Meanwhile, Claudette Anderson, mother of vicar Charles, has become a key supporter, offering advice and rooting for Kev. Coghill described their relationship as "sweet," with Claudette treating Kev like a favorite son.
Steve's Arrival Threatens Progress
As Lewis's 24th birthday approaches, Kev has big plans to make up for the years he missed. But the arrival of Steve, an old friend, could derail everything. Coghill hinted that Steve and Kev are like "two sides of the same coin," with Steve representing Kev's past life of crime. "They grew up together, they are as thick as thieves," Coghill said. "If it weren't for Lewis, I think he would fall back in with him pretty much straight away."
Steve's presence could tempt Kev to return to his criminal ways, undoing all his hard work. Coghill added that Steve's arrival will "undoubtedly" bring trouble for other villagers as well.
Kev's Determination to Be a Good Father
Despite the challenges, Coghill emphasized that Kev is "absolutely 100% determined to bond with his son and be a decent dad to Lewis. He will stop at nothing to do so." As for romance, Coghill teased that Kev is "open to offers" but not currently focused on love.
